Figure 6.  A handmade acrylic chemical tank and plate dipper.  (Silver nitrate sensitizing tanks may be made from either red cast acrylic sheet or, if made from a transparent variety, encased in a lightproof wooden housing.  The inclination of the tank should be 15-20 off vertical.  This particular fixing tank has a black back and a transparent front in order to reveal the ambrotype reversal as a plate on transparent glass is processed.
